Settle up in a group

The Balances section shows what each person owes or is owed. Settle up turns that into payments.

Suggested repayments

OweJar suggests who should pay whom. Choose between:

• Fewer transfers: the smallest number of payments that clears the group.
• Original relationships: people pay back the person who actually paid for them.

An admin can turn on Simplify suggested group repayments in Group settings. It’s off by default.

Record a payment

• I paid: you paid someone. It stays pending until they confirm they received it, so nobody’s balance changes by mistake.
• I received: someone paid you. It counts immediately because you’re the one confirming it.

Choose a method (UPI, Bank transfer, Cash or Other) and add an optional reference. You can apply a payment to specific expenses if you want to be precise.

The person receiving an I paid can confirm or reject it. Either side can ask to reverse a confirmed payment; the other person has to agree.

Paying with UPI or PayPal

If the person has added a UPI ID or PayPal.Me link to their sharing profile, OweJar shows a button that opens your payment app. Returning from that app doesn’t confirm anything: record I paid once you’ve actually paid. OweJar never moves money itself.

Payments with guests

Guests don’t have accounts, so payments with them are recorded by you and marked as recorded rather than confirmed by the guest.
