Notifications: email, Telegram and push

OweJar can tell you about things that need you by email, on Telegram and with push notifications on your phone and in your browser. You choose, for each kind of notification, where it goes.

Choose what you get

On the web, open Account → Notifications. In the phone app, open Me → Notifications (you need to be signed in to multi-device sync). Each row is a kind of notification and each column a channel; tick the boxes you want.

• Group requests and payments: invitations, join requests, payments to confirm, requests to undo a payment, disputes and reminders from people in your groups. On everywhere by default.
• Other group activity: new and changed expenses, comments, confirmed payments and people joining. Off by default, so you aren’t flooded.
• Reminders and due dates: your reminders, bills, deliveries and entries with a due date, at the time they’re due.
• Agenda summary: what’s overdue, due today and coming up in the next 7 days, every morning or every Monday.

The phone app already reminds you about reminders, bills and deliveries on that phone, so push sends those to your browsers only and your phone doesn’t buzz twice.

Connect Telegram

1. Choose Connect Telegram. Telegram opens a chat with the OweJar bot.
2. Press Start. OweJar shows Connected within a few seconds.
3. Choose Send test to check it.

To stop, choose Disconnect, or send /stop to the bot.

Turn on push

• In a browser: choose Turn on under Push and allow notifications when your browser asks. On iPhone and iPad, first add OweJar to your Home Screen (Share → Add to Home Screen) and turn push on from there.
• On your phone: turn on Push on this phone in Me → Notifications and allow notifications.

Prefer nothing private on your lock screen? Turn off Show names and amounts in push notifications; pushes then only say “Open OweJar”.

Check that it works

Every channel has Send test, and shows when it last sent something. Recent notifications lists what was sent where, and why anything failed.
