Recurring entries and expenses

Open Recurring. It has two tabs:

  • Recurring entries: repeating I gave or I got money, such as pocket money, rent you collect or a loan instalment.
  • Recurring expenses: repeating personal expenses that are added automatically, such as a gym membership.
  1. Choose Add scheduled entry (or the expense equivalent).
  2. Pick the person or category, the amount and how often it repeats: daily, weekly, monthly or yearly, every N periods.
  3. Choose the start date. If it’s in the past, OweJar asks whether to create the missed dates too; this is off by default.

Each scheduled record shows where it came from, so you can always tell an automatic entry from one you typed.

Skip or catch up

  • Skip a date when one occurrence doesn’t apply. Skipped dates aren’t created again.
  • Catch up missed dates creates any due records that haven’t been added yet.
  • Deleting an automatically created record doesn’t bring it back on the next run.

Reminders

Add a reminder to a money entry or to someone’s share of an expense, once or repeating. Open the entry and choose Add reminder, or manage them all on the Reminders page.

  • On the web, due reminders appear on your Overview.
  • In the phone app, reminders also send a notification on that phone.
  • To get them in your browser, on Telegram or by email as well, turn that on under Notifications.
Remind them, kindly

Pair a reminder with a shared statement so the other person can see exactly what’s outstanding.
