Record money you gave and got
Create I gave and I got entries, record full and partial repayments, and undo mistakes.
On this page
A money entry is a single event: you gave someone money, or you got money from them. OweJar tracks how much of it is still open until it’s fully paid.
Create an entry
- Choose New → I gave (you lent or paid for them) or New → I got (you received or borrowed).
- Pick the person, or add someone new.
- Enter the amount, date and an optional note, such as “Dinner advance”.
- Save. The person’s balance updates straight away.
Record a repayment
When money comes back, open the entry and choose Record payment.
- Enter the full amount to mark it Fully paid, or a smaller amount for a partial payment. The entry shows Still owed to you or Still to pay with a progress bar.
- You can record several partial payments over time. OweJar won’t let a payment exceed what’s left.
- Recorded a payment by mistake? Open the payment and undo it. The amount becomes open again.
Payments are kept as history linked to the original entry, so they can’t be edited directly. Undo the payment and record it again instead.
Find entries
The Entries page lists everything, newest first. Filter by I gave or got, by status (Unpaid, Partly paid, Fully paid) and by a date range.
Edit or delete an entry
Open the entry and choose Edit to change the amount, date, person or note. Delete is under More options. Every change is listed on the Activity page.
Add a reminder
Choose Add reminder on an entry to be reminded once or on a schedule. On the web, due reminders appear on your Overview; the phone app also sends a notification, and you can get them by Telegram, email or push too (see Notifications). See Recurring entries and reminders.
Entries that repeat
For pocket money, rent you collect or a monthly loan instalment, create a recurring entry instead of adding one every month. See Recurring entries and reminders.
