Phone app: backups and multi-device sync

Encrypted local and cloud backups, restoring, and turning on multi-device sync.

The phone app stores your records on the device. Backups and sync are two different ways to keep them safe.

Local backups

  • Open Me → Backups → Local Backup to export an encrypted backup file protected by a passphrase you choose (8 or more characters). Keep the passphrase safe: OweJar can’t recover it.
  • The newest three backup files are kept on the phone. Import a file to restore it.

Cloud backups

  • Open Me → Backups → Cloud Backup to save encrypted backups to iCloud Drive on iPhone, or to a folder you choose on Android (which can be Google Drive).
  • Backups are made when you choose Back up now; keep the app open until it finishes.
  • Choose how many days to keep backups. Your newest three can’t be deleted by accident.
Restoring replaces everything

Restoring a backup replaces all data on the phone and turns sync off. Export a fresh backup first if you might need the current data.

Multi-device sync

Sync keeps your phone’s book in the cloud, so it appears on the web, on your other phones and in AI assistants. It’s part of OweJar Pro in the phone app.

  1. Open Me → Multi-device sync.
  2. Sign in with an email code, or Sign in with Apple on iPhone.
  3. Choose Enable cloud for this data and wait for the upload to finish.
  4. Changes then sync automatically while the app is open. Use Sync now to sync straight away.

Sync and backups are separate: keep making backups if you want copies you control.
